Cashmere: Cashmere is from goat. Goat will grow fine fleece to keep warm in cold climates, depending on the temperature. Cashmere is a precious and scarce resource. Only a dozen grams of cashmere can be harvested from each goat.

Sheep Wool: Wool is from sheep. Although it is very fine, it is called wool in the industry. The best wool in the world is from Australia. 

Different Warmth Retention Property (Cashmere ＞ Wool)

Under the same coverage area, the finer cashmere has a larger surface area, which can hold more still air, so that cashmere has better warmth retention. Cashmere is eight times warmer than wool. And it is lighter than wool, whose weight is only 1/5 of wool. Cashmere is the best choice for winter garment fabric. But it is more expensive.

Cashmere has better moisture absorption. It will not fade after dyed. And cashmere also has the best moisture absorption among fibers. It is breathable, dry and light for wearing.

Different Anti-pilling Property (Wool ＞ Cashmere)

Wool is more durable. Although after a long time of wearing and washing, it will not quickly lose shape or elasticity. Cashmere sweater is easier to deform and pilling than wool. So cashmere needs careful care and maintenance.

Different Skin-friendly Property (Cashmere ＞ Wool)

The scale layer of cashmere is round. This original structure decides it have smoother and more exquisite surface, so it is skin-friendly and comfortable for wearing next to the skin. There are layers of jagged bumps on the sides of wool. And the scale layer of wool is pointed. This original structure decides it has rougher surface. So it is not suitable for wearing directly next to the skin.

A sheep can produce several kilograms of wool per year. But a goat can produce a few dozen grams of cashmere per year only.

Cashmere sweater will almost not shrink after washing. But wool sweater will more or less shrink after washed.
