In cotton carding sliver, there are more short fiber and nep impurity and the elongation parallelism and separation of fibers are insufficient. That is difficult to meet the spinning requirements of high-grade textiles. Therefore, fabrics with high quality requirements are made from yarns spun by combing spinning systems. In addition, there are also some yarns of special purposes are mostly combed yarns.
Combing spinning system is formed by adding a combing process between cotton carding and drawing in the carding spinning system. Combing process is composed of combing preparation machine and combing machine. Its main functions are as following:
- Remove the flock in the carding sliver to improve the length and uniformity of the fiber, in order to create conditions for improving yarn evenness and the yarn strength.
- Remove the neps and impurities between fibers to improve the appearance of yarns.
- Make fibers further straighten, parallel and separate to improve the evenness, strength and luster of yarns.
- Make even combing slivers for the next process.
After combing process, carding silvers can remove 42~50% short fiber, 50~60% impurities and 10~20% neps, and the fiber straightness can be increased from 50% to 85~90%. Therefore, combed yarns are superior to the carded yarns of the same linear density in physical and mechanical properties and exterior luster, etc.
The combing waste noil rate of combing process is higher. And there are some long fibers in the combing water noils. At the same time, the increasing cost of equipment and labor increase the processing cost of combing process. Hence, to choose combing process, people should comprehensively consider the technical-economic effect from the aspects of improving yarn quality, saving cotton and reducing cost, etc.
