In recent years, the research and development of flame-retardant textile have increased gradually and made considerable progress. With the rapid development of urban modernization construction and the development of tourism and transportation, as well as the increasing demand for export textiles, flame-retardant textiles have a huge potential market. According to the survey, the consumption of flame retardant products is mainly distributed in steel casting industry, fire service industry and chemical manufacturing industry, etc. In addition to clothing, flame-retardant textiles for automobiles, trains and aircrafts and seat cover cloth, curtain and decorative cloth used in hotels, theatres and auditoriums, etc. both have a promising prospect.
There are two main ways to realize the flame-retardant function of textiles.
1.Apply flame-retardant layers to the fabric surface or into the fabric by finishing process.
At present, the international popular flame-retardant process is probenzene (Proban) and CP flame retardant.
Proban is water-soluble flame-retardant agent, which is very easy to penetrate into the fibers to make it flame-retardant. It is a finishing flame retardant for cotton fibers and their blends. It can form a permanent cross-link inside the fabric to make the fabric flame-retardant and keep the original properties of fabric.
CP flame-retardant fabric is produced by imported technology and imported environmentally-friendly flame retardant. The advantage is that the formaldehyde content can reach international standard and it doesn’t bounce back over time. But the strength loss of CP flame-retardant fabric is higher. And CP flame-retardant fabric is more expensive.
2.Add flame retardant into the fiber by technologies of polymer polymerization, blending, copolymerization, composite spinning and modification to make it flame-retardant, as flame-retardant fiber.
At present, the main flame-retardant fibers are: arylon, flame-retardant acrylic fiber, flame-retardant viscose fiber, flame-retardant polyester and flame-retardant Vinylon, etc. In addition to excellent flame-retardant properties, the most famous feature is the strong washable property. Because it is flame-retardant fiber, so the ordinary industrial washing will not affect its flame-retardant property. It is called permanent flame-retardant fabric.
Flame-retardant products made of flame-retardant fiber have following characteristics:
1. Excellent permanent flame-retardant performance. Wash and friction will not affect the flame-retardant property.
2. High safety. When fiber meets fiber, there will release low smoke without releasing poison gas.
3. Use conventional fibers as the carrier. Do not produce harmful elements. Meet the requirements of environmental protection.
4. Good thermal insulation property. Can provide all-around thermal protection.
5. Has moisture absorption performance as conventional fibers. Has the advantages of soft and comfortable hand feeling, air permeability and warmth keeping.
