Kapok Fiber

Kapok fiber is natural cellulose fiber, which is very environmentally-friendly.

 Advantages of Kapok Fiber

  1. Density is 0.29 g/cm3, which is only 1/5 of that of cotton fiber. It is very light.
  2. The degree of hollowness of kapok fiber is as high as 80%, which is 40% higher than that of ordinary fibers. SO kapok fiber has excellent thermal insulation property.
  3. It has natural health caring, antibacterial and anti-mite functions.

Disadvantages of Kapok Fiber

  1. The fiber length of kapok fiber is 5~28mm and is concentrated in 8~13mm. The fiber length is short. The discreteness is very big.
  2. Kapok fiber is light and its surface is smooth, so that the cohesive force is low, which makes it difficult to yarn spinning.

Applications of Kapok Fiber

1.Fabrics for medium-high grade cloth and home textiles
Kapok fiber has poor spinnability, so generally it cannot be pure spinning. Instead, it is blended with cellulose fibers, as cotton and viscose fiber, etc. to weave clothing fabrics with good luster and handle.
2.Filling materials for medium-high grade beddings, pillows and back cushion, etc.
Kapok fiber has some excellent characteristics, as non-hygroscopic, not easily tangled, mothproof and healthful. It is very suitable for making filling materials for mattress and pillow, especially in humid weather or in humid area.
3.Buoyancy material for life-saving products
The float made of kapok fiber fabric has good buoyancy retention.
4.Thermal insulation materials and sound absorption materials
For kapok fiber has large enthalpy, low thermal conductivity and high sound absorption efficiency, now it is used as thermal insulation material and sound absorption material in industries, such as insulation and sound-absorbing filler for houses.
