The Basic Performance of Textile Fabric

1.Moisture Absorption Performance
The moisture absorption performance of textile fiber directly affects the wearing comfort of the fabric. Fiber with big moisture absorption capacity can easily absorb the sweat excreted by the human body, so as to regulate body temperature and relieve hot and humid feeling to make people feel comfortable.
Wool, flax, viscose fiber, silk and cotton, etc. have stronger moisture absorption performance. And synthetic fibers generally have poorer moisture absorption capacity.

2.Mechanical property
Under the action of various external forces, textile fibers will deform. That is called the mechanical property of textile fibers. The external forces include stretching, compressing, bending, torsion and rubbing, etc. The mechanical property of textile fibers includes strength, elongation, elasticity, abrasion performance and elasticity modulus, etc.

3.Chemical resistance
The chemical resistance of fibers refers to the resistance to the damage of various chemical substances.
Among the textile fibers, cellulose fiber has strong resistance to alkali and weak resistance to acid. Protein fiber will be damaged by both strong and weak alkali, and even has decomposition. The chemical resistance of synthetic fiber is stronger than that of natural fiber.

4.Linear density and length of fiber and yarn
The linear density of the fiber refers to the thickness of the fiber. Textile fibers should have a certain linear density and length, so that the fibers can fit with each other. And we can rely on the friction among the fibers to spin yarns.

5.Characteristics of common fibers

(1)   Natural fibers:

Cotton: perspiration absorption, soft

Linen: easy to crease, stiff, breathable and expensive after finished

Ramie: yarns are rough. Usually applied in curtain fabric and sofa fabrics.

Wool: wool yarns are fine. Not easy to pill.

Mohair: fluffy, good heat retention property.

Silk: soft, has beautiful luster, good moisture absorption.

(2)   Chemical fibers:

Rayon: very light, soft, usually applied in shirts.

Polyester: not easy to crease after ironing. Cheap.

Spandex: elastic, make clothes not easy to deform or fade, a little expensive.

Nylon: not breathable, hard hand feeling. Suitable for making coats.
