Why do we say that nylon is familiar and also unfamiliar? There are two reasons. Firstly, the consumption of nylon in textile industry is less than other chemical fibers. Secondly, nylon is essential to us. We can see it everywhere, such as lady’s silk stockings, tooth brush monofilament and so on.
Its scientific name is polyamide fiber. It is the world’s earliest industrially produced synthetic fiber. What is the advantage of nylon? We can sum up as light, soft, cool, elastic, wet, wear-resisting and anti-bacterial.
1. Wear-resisting. It is the top of all fibers, which is 10 times as much as cotton, 20 times as much as wool and 140 times as much as wet viscose fiber. Also it has high strength, which is 1~2 times higher than cotton and 3 times as much as viscose fiber.
2. As light as a feather. It has low density.
3. As soft as pashm.
4. Moisture absorption and easy dyeing . Under general atmospheric conditions, the moisture regain is about 4.5%, which is much higher than polyester (0.4%). It also has better dyeing property. It can be dyed by acidity dyes and disperse dyes, etc.
5. Naturally cool.
6. Anti-bacterial.
7. Good rebound resilience.
With so many advantages, why is nylon less applied in textile industry? Generally speaking, there are some reasons as following:
1. For a long time, we depend more on imported raw material. And staple fiber raw material is mainly recycled material.
2. Upstream: Staple fiber manufacturers are lack of market promotion, research and development.
3. Midstream: It is difficult for spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing.
4. Downstream: There is a lack of understanding and communication between terminal brand enterprises and nylon staple fiber industry chain.
