Surfactants have already been used as dozens of functional reagents in daily life and many industrial and agricultural production fields, as emulsifier, detergent, wetting agent, penetrating agent, foaming agent, solubilizing agent, dispersing agent, suspending agent, cement water reducing agent, fabric softener, leveling agent, fixing agent, fungicide, catalyst, waterproof agent, anti-fouling agent, lubricant, acid mist proof agent, dustproof agent, preservative, spreading agent, thickening agent, permeable diaphragm agent, flotation agent, stopping-off agent, oil-displacing agent and anti-blocking agent, deodorant, anti-static agent and surface modifier, etc.
Also surfactants are used as auxiliaries or additives to be applied in the traditional industries, as food, paper manufacturing, glass, petrol, chemical fiber , textile, printing and dyeing, oil paint, medicine, metal processing, new material and architecture, etc.

Application in textile
Surfactants are widely applied in textile industry. For example, in the textile processing procedures, as spinning, yarn manufacturing, seizing, weaving, knitting, scouring, dyeing, printing and finishing, etc., surfactants or auxiliaries with surfactant as the main body are used to improve efficiency, simplify process, improve performance and improve quality.
In actual application, surfactants are used as detergent, wetting agent, penetrating agent, emulsifier, solubilizing agent, foaming agent, defoaming agent, smoothing agent, dispersing agent, leveling agent, retarding agent, fixing agent, scouring agent, softener, anti-static agent, waterproof agent and anti-bacterial agent, etc. In textile industry, nonionic surfactants are used the most early. Although its consumption has declined gradually in recent years, it is still very large comparing with other industrial departments. Nonionic surfactants are widely applied as solubilizing agent, detergent, wetting agent, dispersing agent, emulsifier, leveling agent, scouring agent, softening agent and anti-static agent, etc.
Anionic surfactants are mainly used as detergent, penetrating agent, wetting agent, emulsifier and dispersing agent, etc. Because the fibers are more negatively charged, so cationic surfactants can be firmly adsorbed on the fabric. They are commonly used as fabric softener, leveling agent, waterproof agent, anti-static agent and fixing agent, etc. Amphoteric surfactants are generally used as leveling agent, fabric softener and anti-static agent for metal complex dyes.
