It is copolymerized by more than 85% acrylonitrile and less than 15% second and third monomers, which is spun into staple or filament by wet or dry method.
For the excellent performance and sufficient raw material, acrylic fiber is developed very quickly. Acrylic fiber is soft and has good warmth retention performance. Its density is smaller than that of wool (Acrylic fiber: 1.17g/cm3, Wool: 1.32g/cm3). It is widely used to make bulky knitting wool, acrylic fiber blanket and acrylic fiber carpet. So it is called artificial wool and synthetic wool.
Basic Characteristics
- Moisture absorption: Better than polyester and poorer than nylon. In standard state, moisture regain is about 1.2~2.0%, which is medium among synthetic fibers.
- Dyeing property: Acrylic fiber can be dyed by cationic dyes or acid dyes. It has good dyeing property.
- Mechanical property: The strength is lower than that of polyester and nylon.
- Light resistant, sun-proof, weather resistant: Acrylic fiber has excellent sun-proof and weather-resistant performance, which is the best among natural fibers and chemical fibers.
- Thermal property: Acrylic fiber has good thermoelasticity.
- Others: Good chemical stability. And it will not be eaten by worms. This is an important performance better than wool.
Main Application
Acrylic fiber is mainly applied in making artificial fur, blankets, carpets, plush, bulked yarn, water hose, sunshade cloth, tent, gun cover and curtain, etc.
